3.14 For each pre-recorded synchronised time-based media, that has synchronised captions or audio description, are the control features for these alternatives presented at the same level as other primary features?

Official methodology to test criterion 3.14

Test 1 (3.14)

iOS and Android
  1. Identify on the screen pre-recorded synchronised time-based media with a synchronised caption track or audio description.
  2. Check that it is possible to activate and deactivate captions or audio description without any additional steps compared to the main features (play, pause, etc.).
  3. If this is the case, the criterion is validated. Example: If the play button can be activated from the interface by a simple tap (without the need to activate a component first to display a drop-down menu, for example), the captions feature must be available in the same way, with a simple tap. Conversely, if the captions feature is available from a drop-down menu that has to be activated first (by a tap, for example), it will not be considered to be at the same level, as there will be an additional step to perform. Note: Although volume and playback controls may be physical components of the devices (volume buttons on a smartphone for example), it is not required that these devices have physical controls dedicated to activating captions and audio description or that these controls, if they exist, are located at the same level.
