RAAMA
8.1 On each screen, is the visible content carrying information accessible to assistive technologies?
Official methodology to test criterion 8.1
Test 1 (8.1)
iOS and Android
- Activate the screen reader.
- Scroll through all the items using the screen reader gestures.
- Check that all the information visible on the screen is rendered by the screen reader.
- If this is the case, the criterion is validated. Note: In applications, items can be grouped together. For example, in a product catalogue, each item has a title, a price and a description. Instead of having the screen reader focus on each of the 3 items, the application can be designed so that the screen reader only accesses the item as a whole, so that the screen reader displays all the information without the user having to make several gestures to reach the 3 items. This is acceptable (and even encouraged, since it limits the number of actions required to browse the content), but care must be taken to ensure that all the text is rendered by the screen reader.
