Official methodology to test criterion 3.1

Test 1 (3.1.1)

  1. Find in the document the information provided by the colour in a word or set of words.
  2. For each of these pieces of information, check for the presence of:
    • additional information in the code (title, aria-label, visually hidden text, aria-current, etc.);
    • and additional visual information to complement the colour (icon, graphic effect in terms of shape or position, typographical effect, etc.).
  3. If this is the case for each piece of information, the test is validated.

Test 2 (3.1.2)

  1. Find the information (provided by colour) in a text in the document.
  2. For each of these pieces of information, check for the presence of:
    • additional information in the code (title, aria-label, visually hidden text, aria-current, etc.);
    • and additional visual information to complement the colour (icon, graphic effect in terms of shape or position, typographical effect, etc.).
  3. If this is the case for each piece of information, the test is validated.

Test 3 (3.1.3)

  1. Find the information provided by the colour in an image in the document.
  2. For each of these pieces of information, check for the presence of:
    • additional information in the code (title, aria-label, visually hidden text, aria-current, etc.);
    • and additional visual information to complement the colour (icon, graphic effect in terms of shape or position, typographical effect, etc.).
  3. If this is the case for each piece of information, the test is validated.

Test 4 (3.1.4)

  1. Find the information provided by the colour in a CSS property in the document.
  2. For each of these pieces of information, check for the presence of:
    • additional information in the code (title, aria-label, visually hidden text, aria-current, etc.);
    • and additional visual information to complement the colour (icon, graphic effect in terms of shape or position, typographical effect, etc.).
  3. If this is the case for each piece of information, the test is validated.

Test 5 (3.1.5)

  1. Find the information provided by the colour in the document in a time-based medium.
  2. For each of these pieces of information, check for the presence of:
    • additional information in the code (title, aria-label, visually hidden text, aria-current, etc.);
    • and additional visual information to complement the colour (icon, graphic effect in terms of shape or position, typographical effect, etc.).
  3. If this is the case for each piece of information, the test is validated.

Test 6 (3.1.6)

  1. Find the information provided by colour in non-time-based media in the document.
  2. For each of these pieces of information, check for the presence of:
    • additional information in the code (title, aria-label, visually hidden text, aria-current, etc.);
    • and additional visual information to complement the colour (icon, graphic effect in terms of shape or position, typographical effect, etc.).
  3. If this is the case for each piece of information, the test is validated.
