Data type and format

This term is defined by more than one standard, and the wording differs. Each definition below is the one that applies to that standard’s criteria.

Definition in RAWeb 1.1

Indication of the data type and format expected when entering a form input field. For example

  • Date (dd/mm/yyyy);
  • Amount in euros;
  • Postcode (5 digits: e.g. 75001).

Important note: when the type of form input field offers an input mask, for example the date or time fields, the format indication is not necessary.

Definition in RAAM 1.1

Text indication enabling the user to know what type of data and/or input format is required by a field, before filling it in. For example:

  • Date (dd/mm/yyyy);
  • Amount in euros;
  • Postcode (4 digits: e.g. L-2450).

Note: when the form field type provides an input mask, such as by displaying a native control (for example, the native date picker component), the format indication is not necessary.
