Voice-based services

This term is defined by more than one standard, and the wording differs. Each definition below is the one that applies to that standard’s criteria.

In a spoken communication system (e.g. telephony), functions can be made available, for example

  • voice mail (answering machine);
  • an automatic switchboard that requires you to say a number between 1 and 4 to be redirected to a service;
  • or any other interactive voice server.

In an oral communication system (e.g. telephony), features may be provided, for example:
